The house is a reflection of the Path of Capital and the Path of Ideas taken together: people who received a European education return home, and their changed worldview finds expression in the façade of this old Kyustendil town house.

Yordan Popanastasov returned from Heidelberg to Kyustendil in 1900 with a law degree and, with it, a European education and outlook. He worked successively as a notary, prosecutor, and judge; he purchased commercial premises, and in 1907 built this house. The home welcomed the judge and writer Georgi Stamatov, who lived with the Haralampiev family during the period 1924–1925, as well as the folk healer Petar Dimkov – evidence that Popanastasov's home was not merely a residence but a centre of urban intellectual life.
