The revenues connected with tobacco created the financial conditions for the construction of this façade, allowing for the use of elaborate designs and materials that showcase the wealth generated by the tobacco industry.

This world of tobacco capital and ambition also had an impact on literature – it was this world that inspired Dimitar Dimov to write his novel "Tobacco", in which Karakostov Senior becomes the chief tobacco expert at "Nikotiana" AD under the name Kostov.

His real home stands on the corner of Hristo Grancharov Street: the oval pediment and the curved lines above the central balcony bear the mark of Viennese and Budapest Art Nouveau, adapted to the Dupnitsa urban context.
