The Liberation of Kyustendil is commemorated each year on 29 January with a festive procession through the town square, a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of Ilyo Voyvoda, and a historical reenactment. Organised by the Municipality of Kyustendil, the day also draws visitors to the House Museum of Ilyo Voyvoda. It is a moving occasion for tourists, residents and students to honour the town's freedom and its revolutionary heroes.
